Definition |
A heterogenous disorder charecterised by severe and prolonged (over 6 months) musculous-keletal and mental fatigue, and a variety of emotional disturbances impairing daily activities. |

Prognosis |
The majority of cases in general practice seem to recover fully functionally, but the more severe cases referred to hospitals remain severely incapacitated for several years. A few recover spontaneously. No fatility reported but there is threat os suicide in some. |

Treatment |
Regular exercise + Walking in fresh airRegularize working hours.Regularize sleep for 7-8 hours.Inj. Neurobion 2cc IM x alt days x 5-10 injections.Cap. Becodexamin 1 bd. (Multivitamin)Syp. Elsoma 2 tsp bd (Any general tonic)Cap. Ginsec 1 bd for elederly patients. If no relief examine and investigate thoroughly to look for common causes: Ausculate heart for valve lesions.Hb% for anemia.Blood-sugar Fasting and PP for Diabetes.X-ray chest for TB.H.I.V. test for AIDS.If clinical appearance of myxoedema- serum Tt#, T4 and TSH. If all tests are normal, Try.Tab. ELTROXIN 1 OD x 30 (Therapeutic trial)Cap. Fluodep 30mg OC x 30 (Anti depressant Fluoxetin) or Tab. DEPSONIL 25mg tds x30. General Measures |
Healthy diet, moderate exercise, stress reduction, Psychiatric counseling for rehabilitive psycho-therapy. Gradual Physical and Occupational rehabilitation. |

Advice to Patient |
Reassure on the non-progressive and non-fatal nature of the problem. Educate in the adverse effects of prolonged bed rest. Encourage gradual increase in activity. Diet, stress reduction as taught, and exercise as tolerated and not leading to exhaustion. |
